I am 85 and have a 57 year old son diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. In January I will move from San Diego to the Village at Northridge, a senior retirement community. My son currently lives in a licensed board and care, where I pay $4,000 for a private room. How can I find a board and care for him in the San Fernando Valley? (He has SSDI, and I supplement his income.)

Hello: My name is Kathy and I’m a single, homeless, and I suffer with both physical and mental impairments that severely make it difficult to work. I am proud to say I have 20yrs with my employer. I’ve been trying to advocate, work, take care of my son and I. My pay is not correct, and their making it very hard to leave. I haven’t worked since 2015 and tried again in 2017 but it did not last and went out again in 2018. I can’t live on my own because of the way it is. I’m not getting full pay. For the last 4-5 yrs I been temporarily with a family member who was an Angel. My goal is to find other Drs and therapist that are familiar with CBT. Since my diagnoses, I’m still using and drinking along with my bipolar 1. I’ve been hospitalized 11xs in 11 yrs. I’m ready to try something different. I have no self worth, confidence, pride, and compassion anymore. Pls help me
I just became the conservator of my 22 year old son. After waiting about 3 months at Olive View he was placed at LaCasa where he escaped from three days later. He is back at Olive View waiting for an IMD. I’m looking for feedback regarding Harborview in LA and Alpine in SD. Which are the best IMD’s available out there? Of course, La Casa has a bed, I’m just not sure if this is a good place for him. Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’m desperate.

I want to know if Nami has made a statement regarding the Florida shooting yesterday. The governor of the state calls it ‘evil’ so once again we do not have compassion for a boy with a brain disease who fell through the cracks. warning signs all over the place…parents allowing guns, students bullying him, rocks through windows, a multitude of social media pics of him with guns. So the parents, teachers and government cry evil while a sick kid goes untreated. I know I’m not taking the popular position but I have a child with schizophrenia so I want to know when how NAMI is going to stand up publicly with it’s own ME TOO movement. Forgive me if I’m speaking out of turn here. I’m anxious to learn all I can so that I can support you.
