Learn to be a Family & Peer Support Specialist

Would you like to help a friend or family member afflicted with a mental health condition but are not sure where to begin?

NAMI SFV invites you to participate in The Family and Peer Support Specialist program consisting of 70 hours of specialized “webinar” training.

NAMI California offers this opportunity for family members, loved ones and peers who are interested in using their lived experiences to help other families in similar situations.

Specially developed by NAMI San Diego, the course will thoroughly instruct you in skills such as:

  • Suicide Prevention
  • Recovery Model
  • Cultural Competency
  • Trauma Informed services
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Triggers and other mental health related topics

After successful completion of the program, you will be equipped with the necessary skills and support to go out into the community to volunteer or secure a paid position within a wide range of behavioral positions.  Additionally, you will receive comprehensive job/volunteer placement assistance and support from local FSS/PSS Program participating NAMI affiliates.
